Test readiness criteria

The Car Goes To Test When These Six Areas Hold.

  • Control remains smooth when the route changes.
  • Observation is early enough to affect the decision.
  • Planning covers junctions, parked cars, cyclists and speed changes.
  • Judgement is legal, safe and not dependent on the instructor rescuing gaps.
  • Independent route management survives missed instructions.
  • A mock result shows pass-level driving rather than lucky quiet roads.

Human trace

Structure Beats Hype When The Date Is Close.

Mark still remembers a pupil who arrived with three weeks before leaving Norwich for an apprenticeship. The test date had become the loudest thing in the room, but it was not the thing that needed teaching. The assessment showed decent control, poor planning on roundabouts and a habit of looking at the sat-nav exactly when the mirrors mattered. The course became a set of repeated mornings, not a miracle claim: same pickup, written fault list, difficult roundabout first while concentration was high, then parking and independent driving when the pressure had dropped. What helped was not being told to believe harder. It was knowing what the next two hours were for.
